RIAA boycott

March is RIAA boycott month at Gizmodo. Read their anti-RIAA manifesto to learn why you should participate and what you can do.
First and foremost, we want the lawsuits to stop. Treating normal people like common criminals and using fear tactics and intimidation to extort thousands of dollars from them goes against everything that this country stands for. Secondly, we want them to stop insisting that DRM software be used on all of their music being sold online. People are willing to pay for their music, but they deserve to be able to own that music and use it however they'd like once they purchase it. And lastly, we want the RIAA to stop trying to stifle innovation and control the future of the Internet merely because the possibility exists for piracy to happen using upcoming technologies.

A couple of things the boycott might entail: No new CDs from Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal, and Sony BMG or no purchases from iTunes or other DRM-befouled music.

Sure, this isn't very much in the grand scheme of things. It's not like getting the US out of the Iraq civil war or re-instating habeas corpus for foreigners. But it is something you can do that might make a small difference.

Anyway, just so you know. This gives me extra resistance against purchasing those three songs I want from the iTunes store that I just haven't been able to find anywhere else (and if anyone has a copy of the album Front by Front by Front 242, let me know).

(thanks to: Steve)
