Creed is perhaps best known for his submission for the 2001 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turner_Prize" title="Turner Prize">Turner Prize</a> show at the <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tate_Gallery" title="Tate Gallery">Tate Gallery</a>, <i>Work No. 227, the lights going on and off</i>, which won that year's prize. The artwork presented was an empty room in which the lights periodically switched on and off. As so often with the Turner Prize, this created a great deal of press attention, most of it questioning whether something as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism" title="Minimalism">minimalist</a> as this could be considered art at all. Artist <a class="new" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jacqueline_Crofton&action=edit&redlink=1" title="Jacqueline Crofton (page does not exist)">Jacqueline Crofton</a> threw eggs at the walls of Creed's empty room as a protest against the prize, declaring that Creed's presentations were not real art and that "painting is in danger of becoming an extinct skill in this country".<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Creed#cite_note-turnerprotests-0"><span>[</span>1<span>]</span></a> In 2006 Martin Creed presented an extensive exhibition with sculptures, videos and performances titled <i>I Like Things</i> with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicola_Trussardi_Foundation" title="Nicola Trussardi Foundation">Nicola Trussardi Foundation</a> in Milan.Mark Henghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05872172199243865094noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6379113.post-65947301911357890382010-10-08T07:25:00.000-04:002010-10-08T07:25:40.288-04:00Wow! Hey! Watch this vid for an entertaining lunch break...<br />
<br />
So, what do you think? Should the painter of "The Singing Butler" be recognized by the Art Establishment, or is the job of the Art Establishment to only present challenges to the public? And are these paintings good, or really just schlock, on par with big eyed crying children art?<br />

But I don't, so it will expire and stop working on 3/21.<br /><br />All the old Haloscan comments will then disappear from the blog. But they are not gone - I have archived them all! However, there is currently (and likely never will be) an easy way to import them into Blogger comments, so they will remain unreadable on the blog.<br /><br />For future comments, the Blogger commenting system should be working on new posts (at least). The papers do not address the issue of whether they made cozy homes under the ground, or whether their unusually large feet were, in fact, hairy.<br /><br />Interesting news, but mostly I just wanted to use this picture.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wWPhIfAvnyk/SgLrM1fsOHI/AAAAAAAAAIw/-d2WbvzJOUE/s1600-h/bilb2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wWPhIfAvnyk/SgLrM1fsOHI/AAAAAAAAAIw/-d2WbvzJOUE/s400/bilb2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333083514511046770" border="0" /></a>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08103232369943781586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6379113.post-17186339080428649762009-05-02T08:38:00.001-04:002009-05-02T08:40:27.343-04:00even more flickr uploadsFrom our other camera (Wendy found the special USB cable).<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42057854@N00/3493166563/" title="DSC00033 by JWEG!, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3562/3493166563_bc081ed164.jpg" width="450" height="253" alt="DSC00033" /></a>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08103232369943781586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6379113.post-67271011456820296352009-05-01T22:36:00.002-04:002009-05-01T22:40:33.923-04:00massive flickr uploadI finally got around to uploading the last few months worth of photos. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42057854@N00/3492255485/">Enjoy</a> (and don't miss <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42057854@N00/sets/72157617576529142/">Steamtown, the Horseshoe Curve, and the Gallitzin Tunnels</a>)!<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/42057854@N00/3493089144/" title="DSC_0331 by JWEG!, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3545/3493089144_ae16f5cf64.jpg" width="450" height="300" alt="DSC_0331" /></a><br /></div>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08103232369943781586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6379113.post-28887349529389525342009-03-16T16:00:00.002-04:002009-03-16T16:12:02.937-04:00My Kid Could Paint That<object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/j46V9wclBaw&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/j46V9wclBaw&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object><br /><br />Hey ye folk with kids, have any of you seen this movie? Check it out! What do you think? Was there an adult hand in a lot of the work? (My vote is...yes). And it's never too early to get some big huge canvases for the kids! But it turns out we have only taken eight pictures since Christmas time and only three with kids.
