I'm back! It is so nice to be on land. My entire world was moving for the last 4 weeks. Still trying to get my land legs back, last night I could feel the bed moving back and forth in my sleep. It wasn't that unusual for us to be pitched 30 degrees back and forth on the Mitchell. No big injuries though and all the test went well. I read a lot and stared out at the sea most days, otherwise played cards. I have some photos I'll send out shortly, I will also post some excerpts from the medical officer's log (aka ramblings of a very bored PA). The ocean is a strange mistress, tedious but I will somehow miss her.

Good news, I was able to say he's dead Jim to the Captain on one occasion (the captains' name is Mike). While traveling back from the Gulf of Alaska on the Western shore of the Queen Charlotte Islands, BC, the captain saw a orange bumper floating in the water. It's color was the international orange/rescue color (pretty standard). International water rules state that if you see that color you have to pick it up. After much manuvering we retrieved the large (6 foot daimeter bumper) and luckily there was no half dad sailor attached (it had probably blown of the deck of another ship). Well the retrieval reminded everyone of a man overboard drill we did earlier off the coast of Seatlle when we used our own bumper to represent the man, the Zodaic was launched and the "man" retrieved and I had to explian what life saving measures I would then take to the Coast Guard (onboard at that time for the drill). Anyway back to the strory, after picking up the wayward bumper off the coast of Canada I looked it over, walked up to the Captain and sais "he's dead Jim".
